Friday December 2, 2016 Coach Metzinger received the North Carolina Baseball Coaches Association Region 1 Assistant Coach of the Year Award. Coach Metzinger is going into his fourth year as assistant baseball coach here at Manteo. He is an extremely hard worker that handles all different aspects of the program. He is our pitching coach and has called pitches for the past three seasons. He led our pitching staff to a 17-7 record and 2.77 team ERA last season. The pitching staff recorded 168 strikeouts to 62 walks. During his first year at Manteo he led the pitching staff to a 13-8 record with a 3.67 ERA after the pitching staff went 5-14 in the prior year. He helped guide MHS Baseball to its first conference championship in nine years.
He was also helpful in starting the American Junior Legion program here in Manteo in 2014, which he coaches in the summer. He led them to a 2015 region 1 championship, and appearance in the state tournament. He is always at the field doing field work, and working on all parts of our athletic complex. He also does lessons with many of the local youth. He handles our baseball website, as well as stats. Outside of his duties as a baseball coach he serves as assistant athletic director and head wrestling coach.
Coach Metzinger was a standout baseball player and wrestler at Bunn High School. He then played four seasons of baseball at Barton College. He graduated from Barton in 2009. At Barton he was a two way player. He then obtained his masters degree in biomechanics from East Carolina University. He is also a Certified Strength Specialist.
He is an outstanding math teacher, and someone we are very fortunate to have as part of the family here at Manteo High School.
